The role | Te tūnga     At Stats NZ, our Microsoft cloud platforms are critical to how we work, collaborate, protect information, and deliver services. We're looking for an experienced Senior Cloud DevOps Engineer to help shape a secure, resilient, and future-focused cloud environment. This permanent Wellington-based senior technical role combines cloud engineering, platform operations, automation, security, and technical leadership across Microsoft 365, Azure, Microsoft Entra ID, Microsoft Purview, and related cloud services. Working closely with security, architecture, and operational teams, you'll contribute to strategic initiatives while providing hands-on technical expertise across our cloud platforms. This is an opportunity to influence technology that supports a modern, cloud-first organisation. You'll help evolve Stats NZ's Microsoft cloud environment and contribute to practical, secure, and well-governed services that make a difference. This role is best suited to an engineer with significant experience across Microsoft 365, Azure, identity, security, and cloud platform services. What you'll do * Design, implement, support and continuously improve Microsoft 365 and Azure services. * Lead automation initiatives that improve reliability, consistency, and operational efficiency. * Manage and enhance identity and access management services, including Microsoft Entra ID. * Implement and maintain security, governance, compliance, and information protection capabilities. * Develop and maintain PowerShell-based automation and cloud management tooling. * Support cloud platform operations, incident response, troubleshooting, and service improvement activities * Provide technical leadership and mentoring to other engineers. * Contribute to platform strategy, architecture, standards, and roadmaps. * Work collaboratively across Technology Services and business teams to deliver secure, effective technology outcomes. What you bring | Nōu te rourou     * Proven experience administering and supporting Microsoft 365 platforms and services. * Strong experience with Microsoft Azure services in a large or complex environment. * Experience with Microsoft Entra ID, identity management, authentication, and access control. * Experience implementing cloud security, governance, and compliance controls. * Strong scripting and automation skills, particularly PowerShell. * Experience supporting enterprise cloud platforms and services. * Ability to analyse and resolve complex technical issues. * Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills. * A commitment to continuous improvement and knowledge sharing. * We highly value demonstrated competency in mātauranga Māori, tikanga, and Te Tiriti o Waitangi application in a workplace setting. To support this work, proficiency in te reo Māori, or a strong commitment to developing te reo Māori capability, is welcomed. * We are seeking candidates with a demonstrated commitment to continuous learning and applying cultural capability in their practice. It would be great if you also have experience with * Microsoft Purview. * Microsoft Defender technologies. * Privileged Identity Management (PIM). * Conditional Access and Zero Trust security models. * Infrastructure as Code and automation frameworks. * Compliance, audit, or assurance-related activities. * Working within government or other highly regulated environments.
