The New Zealand Traveller Declaration (NZTD) is a cross-agency digital service that supports traveller processing, border risk assessment and information sharing across the border sector.
The NZTD Management & Governance Team helps ensure the service remains informed, supported and well governed. Working with operational, policy, digital and partner agency stakeholders, the team provides stewardship and business support for one of Customs' key digital border services. The role supports the effective operation of the NZTD Management & Governance Team, helping ensure priorities remain visible, commitments are delivered and information is accessible, accurate and current. Through coordination and stewardship support, the role contributes to effective planning, decision-making and delivery across the NZTD work programme.
Working across a broad portfolio of activities, you will provide coordination and operational support that enables the team to operate efficiently and effectively. You will help maintain oversight of key actions and deliverables, support governance and reporting processes, and ensure information flows effectively across the team. The role offers the opportunity to work with a range of stakeholders while contributing to the successful delivery of NZTD priorities.
Key aspects of the role include: * Coordinating work programmes, actions and team priorities * Supporting governance, reporting and planning activities * Bringing together information from multiple sources and turning it into useful updates, reports and communications * Maintaining information repositories, SharePoint content and business documentation * Supporting stakeholder engagement and communications * Identifying opportunities to improve processes, ways of working and information management practices * Using Microsoft 365, Copilot and other digital tools effectively, to support collaboration and delivery This is a permanent role and can be based in Christchurch, Wellington or Auckland.
This role is equivalent to a Senior Customs Officer (Grade 1) position, with a salary range of $68,558 to $87,783 and a midpoint of $78,396. About you | Ko wai koe
To be successful in this role, you will be highly organised and enjoy bringing structure, visibility and momentum to multiple pieces of work. You will take pride in creating clarity, keeping people connected and ensuring priorities remain visible and commitments are delivered in a dynamic environment.
You will also bring: * Confidence following up actions, maintaining momentum and influencing progress across multiple stakeholders * Excellent written communication skills and the ability to produce clear, accurate business documentation * Sound judgement, attention to detail and a commitment to quality * The ability to build positive working relationships and work collaboratively across different business areas * Experience using Microsoft 365 applications and digital collaboration tools * A continuous improvement mindset and willingness to identify better ways of working * The ability to work proactively in a small team environment where flexibility and initiative are valued * Experience working in government, operational, regulatory or service delivery environments would be an advantage but is not essential. To work for the New Zealand Customs Service in this role, you must: * Be a New Zealand Citizen or New Zealand Permanent Resident * Reside in New Zealand at the time of application * Have resided continuously in New Zealand for the last five years* * Be able to obtain and maintain an organisational security clearance * Pass a pre-employment drug test and have a clear Police record (*) If you are a New Zealand Citizen or New Zealand Permanent Resident who has resided in New Zealand for the last 5 years but have been absent from New Zealand for periods of 6-9 months within the past five years, preferably in one or more of the following countries: Australia, Canada, UK or the USA, you will be required to provide overseas Police certificates for these periods spent outside of New Zealand.
