The Connersville News-Examiner, located in Connersville, Indiana, has an immediate opening for a sports editor. If you love sports, can work independently, and thrive chasing the lights of the field and gym, we want to speak with you.

Connersville is located in southeast Indiana. A successful candidate will have a degree in communications and or journalism, knowledge of AP style and a willingness to work as a team. The primary duties of Connersville News Examiner Sports Editor are reporting on year-round Fayette County youth and high school sports. This includes attending sports events in person and/or gathering photos and accurate information after the fact.


The coverage area includes Connersville schools and Fayette County communities.


The Connersville News Examiner Sports Editor will establish and foster effective working relationships with local athletic directors, team coaches and sports volunteers.


The Connersville News Examiner Sports Editor will also be responsible for coordinating freelance writers and photographers to help ensure local coverage.


The Connersville News Examiner Sports Editor reports to Connersville News Examiner Managing Editor. The Connersville News Examiner Sports Editor may also collaborate with The Courier-Times and The Shelbyville News sports editors as coverage overlaps.


Duties:


Process and upload sports information by the daily deadlines.

Complete additional special section projects by deadline.

Maintain a professional attitude when interviewing coaches, student-players and parents.

Solicit and proactively research local sports events.

Communicate with sports paginators on content layouts as needed.

Process and upload additional editorial content as needed.


Job Type:


Full-time. 35 hours per week


Requirements:

This position requires in-person evening and weekend coverage of Fayette County sports events. Time management skills are required. Prior sports writing experience preferred. Must be able to communicate effectively by phone and email. Must be comfortable editing digital photos and using browser-based work processing applications.
