About Hawk-Eye Finance:

Hawk-Eye Finance comprises two teams: Commercial Finance and Accounting. The Accounting team is responsible for all accounting transactions, processes, reporting, and policies governance, including actuals analysis and reporting insights. Commercial Finance focuses on forward-looking planning and analysis, including forecasting, budgeting, deal analysis, and general business partnering.

About the Role:

The Commercial Finance Manager role is in the Commercial Finance team, and will partner with our CTO and Technology Organisation. The role reports directly to Hawk-Eye's Finance Director, with regular interaction with Hawk-Eye and Sony Sports leadership. This role has real P&L impact, as R&D is one of our biggest areas of spend in the business.

 

Responsibilities include: 

  • Business partnering: Act as the trusted finance partner to the CTO and technology leadership team, providing financial insight to support short- and long-term decision-making. Own the financials for Tech - from headcount to AI and tooling spend; to capex modelling and strategy; to investment tracking and ROI reporting.

  • Budgeting & forecasting: Own the annual budget, monthly re-forecasts, and long-range planning for the technology organisation.

  • Headcount planning: Partner on workforce planning and reporting, given the people-intensive nature of and R&D organisation.

  • Financial infrastructure build-out: Build reporting infrastructure and mechanisms from the ground up, including: headcount reporting and planning, capitalisation and tax credit models, product P&Ls, R&D investment frameworks and ROI models, among others.

  • Reporting & analysis: Deliver regular management reporting, variance analysis, and KPIs relevant to technology (e.g., cost per project, delivery efficiency). Build and own cloud spend, AI tooling, and engineering software models. Identify opportunities to optimise spend, including cloud/SaaS costs and vendor contracts.

  • Investment appraisal: Build business cases and ROI analysis for new products, tools, and technology investments as well as tech debt mitigation

 

About You

  • You’re a commercially-minded finance partner for a business unit or department.

  • You've worked in fast-paced, high-performing teams before, and you know what good finance partnering looks like.

  • You’re collaborative, open-minded, and are good at earning trust.

  • You’re a problem solver: not afraid of taking on new challenges and finding creative ways to answer complex questions.

  • You can dive deep into technical details, handle complex, technical modelling, and also have sound business judgment.

  • You love to learn and embrace the chance to learn new skills and approaches, and share best practices with the team. You are a good writer and can communicate complex and technical concepts with structure and clarity.

  • You’re experienced in or curious about modern financial software platforms and AI tools, such as Abacum and Claude. You seek out efficiency and automation.

You've got solid skills in:

  • Modelling and analysis - including headcount modelling

  • Finance concepts (eg capitalisation, investment analysis, impairment review; etc.)

  • Verbal and written presentation

  • Multi-stakeholder/matrix management and project management

  • Finance tech, including spreadsheets, Abacum (or similar), automation, AI tools

  • It would be helpful but not essential if you understand SQL, AWS/cloud ops, and the sports entertainment industry.
