Security Engineering Lead
For more than 65 years, Kordia has proudly kept New Zealanders and their businesses safe, connected and ready for the future. Operating across New Zealand, Australia and the Pacific, we deliver mission-critical solutions spanning broadcasting, telecommunications infrastructure, maritime communications, cloud and cyber security. With a talented team of more than 450 experts, we’re trusted by many of New Zealand’s largest organisations to protect what matters most.
Ko tā mātou mahi - About the role
We’re looking for an experienced cyber security leader to lead Kordia’s Security Engineering function across Managed Detection and Response (MDR), Unified Security Management (USM), and Network and Industrial Control Systems (ICS) Security.
This is a senior technical and people leadership role with a strong focus on continuous improvement. You’ll look critically at how our services operate today, identify where manual processes can be simplified or automated, and lead engineering changes that improve efficiency, consistency and scale. We need someone who sees manual effort and asks whether there’s a smarter way to work.
You’ll also lead and develop a team of Security Engineers, setting the technical direction and engineering standards for the function. Working closely with customers, vendors and leaders across Kordia, you’ll ensure our managed security services remain resilient, scalable and aligned with changing customer needs and security threats.
Key responsibilities include:
- Lead, coach and develop a high-performing team of Security Engineers, building technical capability and a strong continuous improvement mindset.
- Own engineering standards, methodologies and technical roadmaps across MDR, USM, and Network and ICS Security.
- Identify manual, repetitive or inefficient processes and improve them through automation, orchestration and better use of our security platforms.
- Strengthen MDR capabilities across detection engineering, threat hunting, incident response, automation and orchestration.
- Lead the design and lifecycle management of network and ICS security solutions across enterprise, telecommunications, operational technology and critical infrastructure environments.
- Improve the scalability and efficiency of USM services across security monitoring, vulnerability management, reporting and compliance.
- Use service performance, trends and operational data to identify and prioritise engineering improvements.
- Provide senior technical leadership on complex customer engagements and major cyber incidents.
Nā tōu rourou - What you will bring
- Strong experience across cyber security, network security, security operations or managed security services.
- Demonstrated experience leading and developing engineering or security operations teams.
- A strong continuous improvement mindset, with experience reducing manual effort and improving security operations through automation, orchestration, platform optimisation or engineering process improvement.
- Strong technical knowledge of MDR, SIEM, SOAR, EDR, threat intelligence and incident response.
- Experience securing enterprise, telecommunications or critical infrastructure environments, with knowledge of ICS and operational technology security principles.
- Strong understanding of security frameworks and standards including ISO 27001, NIST CSF, CIS Controls and Essential Eight.
- Experience developing technical strategy, roadmaps and operational improvement initiatives.
- Strong customer and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
- A relevant degree in Cyber Security, Information Technology, Engineering or a related discipline, along with relevant industry certification such as CISSP, CISM, GIAC, GICSP, CCNP Security, CCIE Security, Microsoft Security, Palo Alto, Fortinet or equivalent.
Nōu te rourou – Why join us?
You’ll lead the engineering behind Kordia’s managed cyber security services, with the scope to influence how we work and where we invest in improvement.
There’s a clear focus on reducing manual effort, getting more from our existing tools and using automation where it makes sense. You’ll have the technical expertise and leadership remit to identify what needs to change, prioritise the work and lead those improvements through to delivery.
Kordia offers matched employer superannuation contributions of up to 5%, learning and development support, hybrid and flexible working, enhanced parental leave, wellbeing initiatives and insurance benefits.
