Junior Hydrogeologist | Physical Hydrogeology | EIT / GIT

We are seeking a Junior Hydrogeologist to join our growing Hydrogeology team. Our team supports a diverse range of mining and other sector projects, with expertise spanning hydrogeological investigations, groundwater monitoring, data analysis, hydrogeological assessment, and groundwater modelling. You’ll work alongside experienced hydrogeologists and multidisciplinary teams, gaining hands-on field and consulting experience while contributing to practical solutions and the continued growth of our Hydrogeology practice.

Why Join Equilibrium?

Global reach. Specialist expertise. Real influence.

Equilibrium brings together the global reach and expertise of an established consultancy with the autonomy and agility of a specialist firm.

Here, you’ll work closely with experienced leaders, have a genuine voice in the business and see the impact of your work firsthand. As we grow, you’ll have the opportunity to take ownership, deepen your expertise in geotechnical engineering and mine waste, and play a meaningful role in shaping what comes next.

We want our people to grow with the business, build meaningful relationships and make a lasting contribution - not simply be part of the team, but help build the future of Equilibrium.

The Role:

As a Junior Hydrogeologist, you’ll support the delivery of hydrogeological and geotechnical programs through a combination of field investigation, data analysis, technical reporting, and project support.

You will:

  • Project Delivery: Support hydrogeological and geotechnical projects through field programs, data analysis, technical deliverables, and project documentation.
  • Field Investigations: Support groundwater and hydrogeological investigations and monitoring programs, including groundwater and surface water sampling, lithological logging, well installation and development, groundwater-level measurements, and routine hydraulic testing.
  • Field Programs: Support the coordination of drilling programs, contractors, field personnel, equipment, and logistics, while operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting groundwater monitoring equipment and instrumentation.
  • Field Quality: Maintain accurate field records, sampling documentation, chain of custody records, and field logs while following applicable health, safety, environmental, and quality control procedures.
  • Data Analysis: Compile, manage, validate, and interpret groundwater, geological, geochemical, and environmental data, including groundwater levels, hydraulic gradients, hydrographs, water quality, and routine aquifer test results.
  • Hydrogeological Modelling: Contribute to conceptual hydrogeological models, identify data gaps and uncertainties, and support quality assurance and quality control of hydrogeological databases and monitoring datasets.
  • Technical Deliverables: Use GIS and analytical tools, including Leapfrog, to prepare maps, cross-sections, figures, tables, technical reports, data summaries, proposals, and work plans.
  • Collaboration & Problem Solving: Work effectively with hydrogeologists, project managers, clients, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams to address field challenges and support project delivery.
  • Technical Development: Build technical and consulting skills through hands-on experience in hydrogeological investigations, field programs, data analysis, and technical reporting.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Typically, 0 – 4 years of relevant experience in mining, engineering consulting or project delivery.
  • Experience with hydrogeological/geotechnical drilling methods and installation, development and sampling of groundwater monitoring wells is an asset.
  • Experience with hydrogeological equipment such as water level meters, pressure transducers, water quality meters and pumps is an asset
  • Experience with slug testing, pumping tests, and/or packer testing is an asset
  • Experience or course work in the use of Excel and databases (Access, SQL)
  • Data visualization experience (e.g. QGIS, ArcGIS, Leapfrog) is an asset
  • Strong work ethic and ability to work independently with remote support provided
  • Detail oriented with excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Bi-lingual (French and English) communication ability is an asset.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to drive company or rental vehicles for project and field activities.

Education & Certifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Hydrogeology, Geological or Environmental Engineering, or a related field.   Master’s degree in hydrogeology is an asset.
  • Eligibility for registration as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Geoscientist-in-Training (GIT) is an asset
