We are seeking an exceptional senior leader with deep experience in the mining and natural resources sector to establish and lead Equilibrium’s next phase of growth in Australia. This is a leadership opportunity for an experienced mining consultant, technical leader or discipline leader with strong industry relationships and a track record of building clients, teams and consulting businesses. Candidates will be considered across geotechnical engineering, mine waste, rock mechanics, hydrogeology, structural geology and surface water, with a strong understanding of the technical and commercial challenges facing the mining industry.

The Role:
As Regional Director, Australia, you will lead the development of Equilibrium’s Australian mining business, combining strategic leadership, client development, technical credibility and team building. You will work closely with Equilibrium’s global leadership and technical specialists to establish our market presence, develop key client relationships, grow our Australian capability and identify opportunities where our specialist expertise can create value for mining and natural resources clients.
You will:
Lead and Grow the Australian Mining Business
- Lead Equilibrium’s Australian growth strategy, market expansion and positioning within the mining and natural resources sector.
- Partner with global leadership to align strategy, resources and opportunities.
- Oversee Australian operations and capability to support sustainable growth.
Build Mining Client Relationships and Market Presence
- Build trusted relationships with mining companies, mine operators, engineering firms and key industry stakeholders across Australia.
- Lead strategic pursuits, client engagement, proposals and commercial opportunities.
- Represent Equilibrium across the mining, engineering and professional communities.
- Identify opportunities where Equilibrium’s specialist capability can create value.
Provide Technical Leadership
- Maintain technical involvement across complex projects.
- Champion technical excellence, innovation and quality.
- Collaborate with Equilibrium’s global technical specialists.
- Mentor engineers and support the development of future technical leaders.
- Strengthen Equilibrium’s technical reputation in the Australian market.
Build a High-Performing Team
- Attract, develop and retain exceptional technical professionals.

What We’re Looking For:
You are an experienced consulting leader who combines technical credibility, commercial acumen and a track record of developing clients, teams and businesses.
- 15+ years of progressively senior experience in mining, natural resources or mining-focused consulting
- A technical background in geotechnical engineering, rock mechanics, mine waste, hydrogeology, structural geology, surface water or a related discipline.
- An established network of senior relationships within the Australian mining industry.
- A strong technical reputation and established relationships within the Australian mining industry.
- Proven success in business development, client leadership and growing consulting capability.
- Experience building high-performing teams and developing future technical and business leaders.
- Strong commercial judgement, communication skills and an entrepreneurial mindset.
- The ability to identify opportunities, build trusted relationships and turn ideas into successful outcomes.
Education & Certifications:
- Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Geological Engineering, Mining Engineering,
- Relevant professional registration, such as P.Eng., PE or RPEQ, or equivalent professional engineering designation.

Compensation & Benefits:
We expect that the salary package to be in the below range depending on experience, qualifications, and skills. The final compensation package will be determined based on the successful candidate’s background and fit for the role.
- Australia $200,000 – $300,000 AUD per year + Superannuation + Bonus
Location:
Equilibrium’s Australian office is based in South Brisbane. For the right candidate, we are open to considering flexible arrangements, including remote-based candidates in other Australian locations, with regular travel to Brisbane to collaborate with the broader team and global leadership.
You must have the ability and willingness to travel within Australia and internationally as required to support clients, projects and collaboration with Equilibrium teams.
Additional Requirements:
- Must be legally authorized to work in Australia where the position is based.
- Periodic domestic and/or international travel may be required for project assignments, meetings, training, client engagements, field investigations, and other business purposes, including travel to remote project and mine sites.
- As the Employer operates globally, flexibility in work schedule may be required to support collaboration across different time zones.
