Lift & Shift Coordinator – Data Centre

Site-Based | Data Centre Construction | Full-Time

The Role

Designer Group is seeking an experienced Lift & Shift Coordinator to support the delivery of a major data centre project.

This is a site-based coordination role responsible for the safe, efficient and planned movement of major M&E plant and equipment from delivery and laydown areas through to final installation locations.

Working closely with Construction Managers, Site Managers, Engineers, Logistics, EHS, subcontractors and specialist lifting contractors, you will coordinate lifting and equipment movements to ensure activities are properly planned, sequenced and delivered in line with the project programme.

Equipment may include transformers, generators, switchgear, UPS systems, chillers, AHUs, pumps, electrical panels, packaged plant and other heavy or high-value M&E equipment.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Coordinate day-to-day lifting, shifting, rigging and major equipment movement activities across the project.
  • Develop and maintain the project Lift & Shift schedule, aligned with construction and installation programmes.
  • Coordinate deliveries, unloading, laydown areas, access routes and movement of equipment to final installation positions.
  • Review lift plans, RAMS and supporting documentation with the relevant project and specialist lifting teams.
  • Coordinate with specialist lifting contractors, crane providers, rigging teams and equipment vendors.
  • Carry out route and access reviews, considering dimensions, floor loading, temporary works, openings, obstructions and site conditions.
  • Ensure lifting activities are appropriately planned, communicated and coordinated before work begins.
  • Coordinate exclusion zones, permits, lifting accessories, plant certification and competency documentation with the relevant site teams.
  • Work closely with Mechanical, Electrical, CSA, Logistics, EHS and Commissioning teams to identify and resolve potential clashes.
  • Attend lift planning, logistics and construction coordination meetings.
  • Track upcoming equipment movements, approvals, dependencies and completed activities.
  • Support safe systems of work and immediately escalate unsafe conditions or deviations from approved plans.
  • Assist with lessons learned and continuous improvement relating to lifting and equipment installation activities.

About You

You will ideally have previous experience in lifting operations, construction logistics, rigging, plant installation or major equipment movement within a large construction environment.

Experience within data centres, M&E construction, mission-critical projects, pharmaceutical, semiconductor, industrial, energy or major infrastructure projects would be particularly relevant.

You should also have:

  • Strong understanding of lifting operations, equipment movement and construction logistics.
  • Experience working with cranes, telehandlers, forklifts, gantries, hoists, skates or specialist lifting equipment.
  • Ability to understand lift plans, RAMS, technical drawings and equipment information.
  • Strong coordination and communication skills.
  • Confidence working with multiple subcontractors and project stakeholders in a fast-paced construction environment.
  • Strong safety awareness and a practical, site-focused approach.
  • Good organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple planned lifts and equipment movements.

Relevant lifting, rigging, crane supervision, logistics or construction safety qualifications would be advantageous.

Appointed Person / lifting planning qualifications are desirable where relevant but are not automatically required for this coordination position.
