Mō te tūnga | About the role

Attendance Services Kaimanaaki play a key role in supporting schools and whānau to help students who are not attending or not enrolled in school to re-engage in education. Through personalised, whānau-centred approaches, Kaimanaaki work closely with students, their families, schools and other connected agencies to create and monitor “back to school” plans to create positive change in attendance and engagement. As part of their day-to-day work, Kaimanaaki engage with students from primary to high school-aged students and their whānau to identify and address barriers to regular attendance. Kaimanaaki conduct home visits to understand each student’s situation, build high-trust relationships, and partner with whānau to coordinate holistic supports they need to return to education.

We are looking for an energetic and resilient team player who is passionate about inclusive education that help students who are chronically absent or non-enrolled, to attend and re-engage in school.

Qualifications:

Preferred but not essential Level 4 or higher NZQA recognised qualification in social services, education, youth work, community development, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

  • Current Full NZ Driver’s Licence with no limitations
  • Be eligible to work in New Zealand

Skills and Experience:

  • Demonstrated experience engaging effectively with tamariki/rangatahi and their whānau/families in community or education settings.
  • Understanding of the education system and knowledge of factors that influence attendance and student engagement
  • Ability to assess barriers to school attendance and implement practical, strengths-based interventions.

  • Empathetic, non-judgmental, and skilled at engaging with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Culturally competent and respectful of Māori values, language, and protocols.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Well-organised, reliable, and able to manage a busy caseload and competing priorities.
  • Confident working independently while contributing positively to a team environment.
  • Demonstrates resilience, flexibility, and sound judgement in challenging situations.
  • Committed to upholding confidentiality, professionalism, and ethical standards at all times.
