Senior Level Designer | North America | Canada | Europe | Fully Remote
What we are looking for:
Here at Escape Velocity, we are building a culture of play and seeking an imaginative, skilful, and proactive Senior Level Designer to join our remote team. This role owns the design and construction of engaging, readable and strategically rich spaces that support the game’s core mechanics, combat and movement systems. The ideal candidate understands not only how to build interesting spaces, but also why players make their choices within those spaces. If you share a passion for developing ground-breaking worlds and you value unique player experiences, then this may be for you!
What we will do together:
- Collaborate with cross discipline teams to plan and create level content.
- Present and pitch ideas to internal and external teams.
- Design and develop maps, arenas, objectives and combat spaces from concept to final blockout.
- Blockouts must clearly communicate flow, scale, player positioning, sightlines, cover and traversal.
- Iterate rapidly based on playtest data and team feedback.
- Playtest in-progress work of others and provide feedback to the team.
- Collaborate with Mechanics and AI Designers and Engineers to create unique gameplay mechanics and improve tools.
- Work with Environment Artists to transition gameplay blockouts into polished environments without compromising intended gameplay integrity.
What you will bring:
- Passion for action games on Console and/or PC.
- Design & 3D level building expertise.
- 5+ years of professional Level Design experience.
- Experience using industry-standard engines such UE5 and/or Unity.
- Strong communication skills, taking and understanding direction well, meeting deadlines, and mentoring more junior members of the team.
- Strong game design knowledge: must be able to intelligently discuss the strengths and weaknesses of recent games. Must be able to list techniques used to make fun levels and systems.
- Drawing/art/Photoshop skills are a plus.
- Technical skills and experience with common scripting languages are a plus.
- 3D construction skill beyond blockout quality geometry is a plus.
- A portfolio demonstrating high-quality shipped/playable Level Design work.
Interested… a bit about Escape Velocity:
Escape Velocity is a team of passionate, talented developers working at a studio that offers excellent benefits, on what we believe is a once-in-a-career project with a committed publisher. But that doesn’t necessarily make us unique. What does make us special? We value the time, energy, and talent of our players and our colleagues. We want every hour spent developing and playing our games to be an incredibly rewarding and worthwhile use of your time. To that end, we are ‘Fully Remote’ and support team members nearly anywhere in the world. We prioritize honesty, even when that means sharing bad news. We strive to give everyone autonomy so they can determine how best to work and play, and we care more about what you bring to the game and studio than how many hours you’re clocking. We’re dedicated to building a culture of play, which not only makes us better game makers, but also strengthens the bonds between us all. We believe in constant improvement across all areas – from the game itself to our production design – and are constantly re-evaluating how we spend our time to ensure that we’re not wasting yours and we’re all always working on the most important things.
A few benefits you can expect from us:
- A generous PTO allowance
- Summer and Winter holidays studio closure (separate to PTO allowance)
- Private Medical & Dental Healthcare
- Private Mental Health scheme
- A generous annual Health & Wellbeing allowance
- Discretionary Studio Bonus
- Top range tech for your home set up
- Other benefits based on your region
