Personal Support Worker (PSW) - Pediatric Home Care | Etobicoke, ON
Etobicoke, ON | Ongoing Afternoon Shifts | 1–3 Hour Visits
The Care Company is a home healthcare company whose purpose is to create A Better Life for Those at Home. We help individuals remain safely and comfortably in their homes for as long as they choose, and our real talent is helping people Make Each Day Count.
We are a growing company that puts People First and strives to get Better Today.
The Care Company is currently looking for compassionate, dependable, and proactive Personal Support Workers (PSWs) to join the care teams of two pediatric clients in Etobicoke.
Our clients are school-aged children, ages 10 and 11, who require support in their homes during the afternoon. We are looking for PSWs who genuinely enjoy working with children, are engaging and attentive, and can balance promoting independence with providing the hands-on support needed to keep clients safe and comfortable.
Previous pediatric, developmental, disability, or community-based care experience is a strong asset.
Schedule & Availability
We are currently seeking ongoing afternoon coverage for both clients:
- Afternoon shifts beginning at approximately 3:00–3:15 p.m.
- Shifts range from approximately 1–3 hours, depending on the client and day.
- Must be comfortable accepting shorter community-based shifts.
- Must be able to commit to an ongoing, consistent weekly schedule for the foreseeable future.
- Opportunity to support one or both clients, depending on your availability and location.
- Additional client opportunities may be available for caregivers interested in building a larger community caseload.
Continuity of care is very important to our clients and families. We are looking for caregivers who can reliably maintain their agreed-upon weekly schedule.
Duties & Responsibilities
As a PSW supporting our pediatric clients, your responsibilities may include:
- Assisting with activities of daily living (ADLs) and age-appropriate personal care.
- Providing assistance with transfers, mobility, and ambulation in accordance with the client's care plan.
- Providing ongoing supervision and monitoring to support the client's safety and well-being.
- Engaging clients in age-appropriate conversation, activities, and routines.
- Encouraging independence and participation while providing assistance where needed.
- Creating a positive, supportive, and engaging environment for the child.
- Observing for changes in the client's physical, cognitive, behavioural, or emotional condition and promptly reporting concerns to the appropriate member of the care team.
- Safely using any client-specific mobility or care equipment in accordance with training and the care plan.
- Following infection prevention and control practices and established health and safety protocols.
- Completing accurate and timely documentation following each visit.
- Communicating professionally with families, Care Coordinators, and other members of the client's care team.
- Providing care safely and competently within your training, demonstrated competency, and PSW scope of practice.
Who We're Looking For
These assignments would be a great fit for a PSW who:
- Enjoys working with children and young people.
- Is warm, patient, compassionate, and engaging.
- Is proactive and comfortable taking initiative rather than waiting to be directed throughout the visit.
- Can keep a child appropriately engaged while remaining attentive to their care and safety needs.
- Is dependable and understands the importance of continuity of care for children and their families.
- Is comfortable providing hands-on assistance with personal care, mobility, transfers, and ADLs.
- Can work independently in a family home while maintaining professional boundaries.
- Communicates effectively with children, families, and the broader care team.
- Has previous pediatric, community, developmental services, or disability-support experience — an asset but not necessarily required for the right candidate.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Personal Support Worker (PSW) certification from a recognized educational institution, or recognized international nursing or medical education that meets The Care Company's requirements for PSW employment.
- As part of our standard credential-verification process, The Care Company verifies applicable PSW educational credentials, including verification through the National Association of Career Colleges (NACC), where applicable.
- Current registration with the Health and Supportive Care Providers Oversight Authority (HSCPOA) is an asset.
- Negative TB test completed within the past year.
- Valid CPR/First Aid certification.
- Valid WHMIS 2015 certification completed within the past year.
- Valid Criminal Record Check/Vulnerable Sector Check completed within the past year.
- Required immunization documentation for measles, rubella, varicella, tetanus, and diphtheria. Hepatitis B immunization is strongly encouraged.
- COVID-19 vaccination documentation, subject to accommodation pursuant to the Ontario Human Rights Code.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
- Good judgment and the ability to work safely and independently in a client's home.
- Ability to identify and report client care concerns or changes in condition to the appropriate members of the care team.
Compensation & Benefits
- $23.50–$26.50 per hour, depending on the client/program and the PSW's HSCPOA registration status.
- Consistent, ongoing pediatric client assignments.
- Opportunity to support multiple nearby clients and build additional community hours, where available.
- 24/7 nursing and clinical support for our caregivers.
- PPE provided as required.
- Educational and training opportunities.
- Employee Recognition Program.
- Health and Wellness initiatives.
- Opportunity to develop valuable experience supporting pediatric clients in the home and community.
