Get Golfing CIO, a charity with a mission to make golf more accessible for all, is seeking an experienced Clubhouse Manager to join our team at Winter Hill Golf Club.

 

This is an exciting opportunity to work for a thriving and dynamic organisation which manages and operates 13 sites with 7,000 members and over 160,000 visitors each year.  

The successful candidate will be part of a £26m revenue company of 600 people which reinvests profits from its operations into its venues, courses, the development of its people, and importantly, community oriented charitable initiatives local to its sites.

 

Our model is to maximise revenue through memberships, golf days, Members functions and Food and Beverage. We say that “our courses are for golfers while our clubhouses are for everyone”.

Role Purpose

Winter Hill Golf Club is situated along the beautiful Thames Path in Berkshire; the club offers a stunning setting with picturesque views across the River Thames. With a large and established membership base, the club enjoys a vibrant and active community, alongside a high level of society engagement and turnover.

 

The Clubhouse Manager will ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the Clubhouse and Function area. They will be accountable for day-to-day Food and Beverage operations, including scheduling, staffing, recruitment, training, and development. The successful candidate will manage the Head Chef to ensure high-quality food and presentation, while ensuring amenities and facilities are well maintained and operational. The role requires a sales-oriented approach to optimise the Clubhouse space, grow revenues, and strengthen Winter Hill Golf Club's Food and Beverage reputation. The Clubhouse Manager will create a welcoming environment for members and guests and deliver exceptional experiences.

Overall Responsibilities 

 

1.     Clubhouse Operations Management:

·    Oversee day-to-day operations of the clubhouse, managing opening and closing.

·    Maintain high presentation and cleanliness standards across all clubhouse and guest areas.

·    Ensure appropriate stock levels are maintained for supplies, equipment, and food and beverage items.

·    Maintain safety and security standards in compliance with health and safety regulations.

2.    Customer Service, Member & Guest Relations:

·    Greet members and guests, addressing needs and ensuring an exceptional experience.

·    Ensure Food and Beverage offerings meet the needs of members and guests.

·    Own the weekly F&B operations plan to ensure continuous and profitable venue growth. 

·    Handle member queries, concerns, and complaints professionally and efficiently.

·    Coordinate and manage society and members-based functions.

3.    Staff Management & Training:

·    Hire, train, supervise, and schedule clubhouse staff, both full-time and casual.

·    Directly manage the Head Chef to develop menus to meet financial parameters. 

·    Manage and develop Clubhouse team members in line with key performance indicators. 

·    Ensure staff provide high levels of customer service

·    Ensure staff are knowledgeable about clubhouse policies and procedures.

·    Foster a positive and collaborative work environment.

4.    Planning & Coordination:

·    Work with the marketing team to develop campaigns that drive clubhouse awareness, engagement, and revenue.

·    Work with the Golf Management team to plan and organise societies, member events, meetings, and charitable activities.

·    Own and manage the overall guest experience within the Clubhouse and function space.

·    Ensure member events run smoothly, from setup to breakdown.

5.     Financial & Budget Management:

·    Assist in the development of budgets for clubhouse operations and activities.

·    Monitor and manage Clubhouse budgets, including labour and food costs

·    Monitor and control operational expenses to meet budget goals.

·    Prepare reports on financial performance, including revenue, expenses, and trends.

·    Develop and maintain systems for tracking inventory, ordering, and receiving supplies. 

6.    Maintenance and Facility Management:

·    Ensure clubhouse facilities are safe, operational, and maintained to the required standard.

·    Coordinate with maintenance/cleaning suppliers for regular repairs and upkeep.

7.     Compliance and Safety:

·    Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, including food safety and alcohol service.

·    Promote a safe environment for all, including emergency procedures & safety protocols.

8.     Marketing and Customer Engagement:

·    Collaborate with the sales and marketing team to promote the clubhouse and its services through member communications and other channels.

·    Develop and implement initiatives to increase member engagement and retention.

Requirements 

·    Experience leading and developing permanent and casual hospitality teams.

·    Experience managing Food and Beverage operations within a hospitality environment.

·    Knowledge of inventory management, purchasing, and cost control techniques. 

·    Proven track record in driving sales and delivering functions and member-based events.

·    Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a guest-centred approach.

·    Ability to handle high-pressure situations, make sound decisions, and solve problems effectively.

·    Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and bank holidays in line with business demands.

·    Reports to General Manager

·    Senior colleagues: Head Chef, Golf Sales Manager, Course Manager and Golf Experience Manager

Experience & Knowledge

·       3-5 years' relevant management experience in leisure or hospitality, ideally in a clubhouse environment.

·       Strong commercial understanding of Food and Beverage revenue, margins, labour, and cost control.

·       Experience within a membership-based or similarly relationship-led customer environment.

·       Experience using commercial initiatives to grow secondary spend and member engagement.

 

Skills

·       Strong leadership skills to motivate front-of-house teams, maintain quality standards, and deliver budget targets.

·       Strong business acumen and financial management skills, including effective P&L management.

·       Strong influencing and relationship-building skills.

·       Excellent communication and organisational skills, with strong attention to detail.

·       Proficiency in Microsoft Office and CRM systems, with the ability to produce and interpret reports.

·       Sound, evidence-based decision-making with a clear commercial focus.
