Senior Staff Writer
Worcester Business Journal is seeking a full-time Senior Staff Writer to help lead our coverage of the Central Massachusetts business community.
WBJ is one of the last independently owned business publications in New England and operates a small, collaborative newsroom focused on breaking news, enterprise reporting and analysis of the industries, companies and people shaping the region’s economy. WBJ maintains a continuously updated website, produces daily email newsletters and publishes a bimonthly print edition.
The Senior Staff Writer will contribute to all of those products, reporting and writing breaking news as well as more in-depth enterprise stories and features. The successful candidate will be expected to develop sources, generate original story ideas and establish subject-matter expertise in key sectors of the Central Massachusetts economy.
This is a position for an experienced journalist who is comfortable moving between daily news and longer-form reporting. The Senior Staff Writer should be able to identify important business trends, explain complex topics clearly and interview a wide range of sources, from executives and entrepreneurs to public officials, industry experts and employees.
Applicants should have a strong foundation in journalism and multiple years of experience working in an established newsroom. Business-to-business journalism experience is helpful but not required. We are looking for a clean and concise writer who is enterprising, organized and able to manage multiple assignments and deadlines. The successful candidate should work well independently while also being comfortable collaborating with editors and other reporters.
WBJ has been regularly recognized by journalism industry organizations, including the Alliance of Area Business Publishers and the New England Newspaper & Press Association. In 2025, AABP recognized WBJ as one of the three best business journals in the country.
This is fundamentally a local reporting position. The Senior Staff Writer will be expected to spend most of their working time in Central Massachusetts, meeting sources, attending events, developing expertise in assigned beats and building a strong understanding of the region’s business community.
