Solution Architect
Our Why
Datacom works with organisations and communities across Australia and New Zealand to make a difference in people’s lives and help organisations use the power of tech to innovate and grow.
About the Role (your why)
We’re looking for a Solution Architect to join our Managed Operations – Modern Platforms capability team. This role plays a pivotal part in designing and delivering transformative IT solutions that help our customers modernise, mature and optimise their IT environments. You’ll work across a wide customer base — from public to private sector organisations — delivering outcomes that enhance business performance, uplift service delivery, and reduce risk.
As a trusted advisor, you’ll partner closely with our sales, delivery, and service teams to scope and solution complex infrastructure transformation projects, blending presales expertise with deep technical knowledge across Microsoft, Oracle, cloud, and hybrid platform technologies.
What you’ll do
As a Solution Architect, you will be focused on:
- Leading presales workshops and customer consultations to shape technical solutions aligned to business outcomes.
- Producing Statements of Work (SOWs), proposals, and Rough Order of Magnitude (ROM) documents that are commercially sound and technically robust.
- Building and presenting solution designs for Datacom’s Managed Operations products and services, including enterprise backup, storage, infrastructure, and middleware platforms.
- Leading solutioning and pricing elements for bids and RFP responses across multi-service line opportunities.
- Partnering with delivery and engineering teams to ensure seamless execution of designed solutions.
- Engaging with vendors to secure best pricing, build strong partnerships, and keep ahead of evolving technologies.
- Mentoring and supporting architects and engineers in their technical growth, while identifying new business opportunities and service improvements.
What you’ll bring
Required experience:
- 10+ years’ experience designing, installing, and/or supporting Microsoft, Oracle or VMware solutions.
- 1–5 years' experience in scoping and pricing Infrastructure or Cloud based project services engagements.
- Strong understanding of hybrid cloud (particularly Azure), Microsoft 365, and ‘on-premises to cloud’ migration strategies.
- Proven experience producing ROMs, SOWs, proposals, and high-level design documents for mid-to-large customers.
- Commercial acumen and experience pricing project and managed service engagements.
- Excellent stakeholder management, communication and presentation skills.
Nice to have:
- Knowledge of backup, storage and recovery technologies such as Veeam, Commvault, Rubrik, Zerto, or Nutanix.
- Familiarity with enterprise management and automation tools (e.g. monitoring, ITSM, asset management).
- Experience working within complex commercial arrangements or bid teams.
- Certifications in Microsoft, ITIL, project management, or architecture frameworks.
