Project Coordinator - 12-month fixed term
The Parliamentary Counsel Office (PCO) is leading a significant transformation programme that will improve the accessibility of New Zealand's secondary legislation.
We are seeking a highly organised and proactive Project Coordinator on a fixed term basis to support the Agency-Published Legislation Transition (APLT) programme—a complex, multi-year initiative that is changing how secondary legislation is published and accessed across New Zealand.
Reporting to the Transition Manager / System Lead, you will play a key role in coordinating the legislative, operational, and system changes needed to make the New Zealand Legislation website the single point of access for agency-published secondary legislation.
This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a nationally significant programme that will support approximately 100 government agencies to transition more than 8,500 pieces of secondary legislation into a new publishing regime.
Alongside your project coordination responsibilities, you will provide executive support to the Deputy Chief Parliamentary Counsel, System and Stewardship. Supporting them in their roles as programme sponsor and system and stewardship leader, you will help enable effective governance, coordination, and day-to-day operations. About the role
This is an opportunity to work at the intersection of legislation, government reform, and digital transformation, engaging with agencies across the public sector to deliver lasting change.
As Project Coordinator, you will provide high-quality coordination, administration, reporting, and stakeholder engagement support across the APLT programme. You'll work across multiple workstreams, helping to keep activities organised, on track, and connected while supporting governance and decision-making processes.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced project environment, has excellent organisational skills, and can confidently manage competing priorities while building effective relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
You will: * Provide high-quality project coordination and administrative support to enable the successful delivery of the APLT programme. * Manage project planning and reporting processes including maintaining project documentation, tracking actions, monitoring timelines, and preparing reports, dashboards, governance papers, and briefing materials. * Coordinate stakeholder engagement and communications activities with government agencies, including supporting the preparation of guidance, updates, workshops, and other communications materials. * Provide governance, financial, and operational support, including assisting with budget tracking, procurement and contract administration, resource coordination, and assurance activities. * Deliver high-level executive support to the Deputy Chief Parliamentary Counsel, System and Stewardship, including diary management, inbox coordination, meeting support, and monitoring key actions and commitments. * Foster strong working relationships and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance programme delivery and collaboration. About you
To be successful in this role, you'll be highly organised, proactive, and comfortable working across multiple priorities. You will bring: * Experience supporting project or programme delivery in coordination role. * Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines. * Excellent written and verbal communication skills. * Experience preparing status reports, meeting papers, and stakeholder communications. * Strong attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality work. * Proven ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders. * Experience supporting governance processes and senior leaders. * Confidence using project management and Microsoft 365 tools. * Sound judgement, initiative, and the ability to work independently while contributing positively to a team environment. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a major legislative and digital transformation programme that will have a lasting impact across New Zealand's public sector. Working alongside experienced professionals and senior leaders, you'll play a meaningful role in delivering change that improves the accessibility and management of legislation for generations to come.
If you're an organised and proactive coordinator who enjoys bringing people, information, and processes together to achieve results, we'd love to hear from you. How to apply
