L1 NOC Engineer
For more than 65 years, Kordia has helped keep New Zealanders and their businesses safe, connected and ready for the future. We operate across New Zealand, Australia, and the Pacific, delivering mission-critical technology and communications services across cloud, cyber security, broadcasting, maritime communications, managed networks, and critical infrastructure. Backed by a team of more than 450 experts, we are trusted by some of New Zealand’s largest organisations to protect what matters most.
Ko tā mātou mahi - About the role
As a Level 1 NOC Engineer, you will join Kordia’s 24/7 Network Operations Centre, playing an important frontline role in monitoring, supporting, and responding to events across Kordia’s networks, systems, and managed customer services.
Working as part of a rotating 24/7 shift roster, you will help ensure faults, alarms, service impacts, and customer-reported issues are identified, logged, investigated, escalated, and communicated effectively.
In this role, you will:
- Monitor network, infrastructure and customer services using Kordia’s operational monitoring platforms.
- Respond to alarms, faults, outages, and customer-reported incidents in a timely and professional manner.
- Perform initial triage and troubleshooting to help identify service impact and support timely restoration.
- Log, update, and manage incident tickets accurately throughout the incident lifecycle.
- Escalate issues to internal support teams, suppliers, field teams and management when required.
- Maintain clear and regular communication with customers, stakeholders, suppliers and internal teams.
- Support major incident processes by providing accurate information, updates and operational coordination.
- Follow NOC procedures, handover processes, escalation paths and operational standards.
- Contribute to service improvement by identifying recurring issues, process gaps and opportunities to work smarter.
- Assist with documentation, knowledge articles, operational updates and approved automation or AI-assisted initiatives.
You will gain exposure to a wide range of technologies and services, including managed networks, Internet services, customer access circuits, voice services, broadcast and maritime systems, monitoring platforms, supplier networks, and incident management processes.
This is a great opportunity to build strong operational experience while learning from an experienced team in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment.
Nā tōu rourou - What you will bring
You will have a genuine interest in technology, a strong customer service mindset, and the ability to stay calm and focused when working through faults or service-impacting issues.
Ideally, you will have around one year of experience in a NOC, Service Desk, technical support, telecommunications, networking or similar operational environment.
You will also bring:
- A good understanding of networking fundamentals, including IP addressing, routing, switching, VLANs and basic troubleshooting concepts.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to provide clear updates to customers and internal stakeholders.
- A customer-first approach and the ability to remain professional under pressure.
- Good problem-solving skills and the ability to follow structured troubleshooting steps.
- Confidence using ticketing systems, monitoring tools, knowledge bases and operational dashboards.
- The ability to prioritise tasks and manage multiple incidents or alarms in a busy operational environment.
- A willingness to follow process, document actions clearly, and complete accurate shift handovers.
- A curious mindset and a desire to keep developing your technical and operational skills.
- Flexibility to work as part of a 24/7 rotating roster.
- A full, clean driver licence.
Experience with network monitoring tools, incident management processes, firewalls, telecommunications services, customer access technologies, or the OSI model would be advantageous, but is not essential.
Nōu te rourou – Why join us?
This is a great opportunity to build your career in network operations while working alongside experienced engineers in a supportive and highly operational team environment.
As part of Kordia’s 24/7 NOC, you will play a key role in helping keep essential customer and critical communications services running. You will gain hands-on exposure to real-world incidents, operational decision-making, customer communications, supplier escalations and service restoration activity.
You will also develop a strong foundation across networking, telecommunications, managed services, incident management, service delivery, and operational support, creating pathways for future growth across Kordia’s network, cloud, cyber security, engineering, and technology teams.
We also offer:
- Matched employer superannuation contribution up to 5%.
- Learning and development budgets for professional development.
- Internal career progression pathways.
- Access to a range of retail discounts and benefits.
- Enhanced parental leave entitlements.
- Wellbeing initiatives.
