Intermediate Product Designer - Rentals
At Trade Me, we're about connecting Kiwi to create the life they want.
Whether it's the big things like finding a home, a job, a car or growing their
business, or the smaller things, like finding that right bedside table or parting
ways with some old stuff. At Trade Me our vision is to be the place where Kiwi
look first.
In this role you'll be responsible for producing visual and interactive design work defined by the strategic objectives for Trade Me's Rentals area.
Designing great solutions that meet both user and business needs in an engaging, 'Trade Me' way, you will bring critical customer insight to the team and help shape the solutions.
You will have a bias for action, great communication skills, and collaborate openly across the wider Trade Me business including the rentals experience of both Trade Me Property and MyRent. From within our Design Guild, you will ensure our rental product experiences delight Kiwi consumers.
Here is what you can expect from this role:
- End-to-End Design: Be involved at every stage of design, from early discovery through to live product, supporting design across web and mobile platforms
- Creative Problem Solving: Apply and champion frameworks like Design Thinking to guide design decisions and uncover the right problems to solve
- Prototyping & Visual Design: Produce wireframes and prototypes from paper sketches to high-fidelity, crafting detailed visual designs with care for edge cases and the full user journey
- User Research & Insights: Plan and run user research and testing independently, converting customer learning into prioritised roadmap opportunities and actionable insights
- AI-Accelerated Workflows: Use AI tools to work efficiently, accelerating your research synthesis, ideation, and design iteration
- Design System Stewardship: Draw on web standards, Google's Material, and Human Interface Guidelines, actively contributing to the pan-Trade Me brand via our Tangram Design System
What you will bring to our team:
- 2+ Years of Experience: Proven experience in similar design roles, ideally within an internal team, though an agency background will absolutely be considered
- Core Toolkit: Complete proficiency with Figma and other modern prototyping software, backed by a portfolio demonstrating projects from end to end
- Platform Knowledge: A solid understanding of Material Design guidelines for Android and Human Interface Guidelines for iOS
- Research Capabilities: Knowledgeable in industry best practices with hands-on experience independently executing user testing and research
- AI Tool Fluency: Hands-on experience leveraging AI tools such as Gemini and Claude to accelerate design workflows and data synthesis
- Critical Competencies: A curious and empathetic mindset driven to understand consumers deeply, paired with strong organisational, communication, and collaborative skills
#AI and Tech: We live and breathe AI in our daily tasks. We value curiosity and an open mind towards new tech, offering dedicated AI skilling to help you grow and thrive in a fast-changing landscape.
#Flexibility: Flexibility means different things to different people and we support you to find what works, including a home office set up and utilities allowance. We value team connection and come together in person on Monday and at least one other day a week.
#Wellness: Being your best self means caring for your physical and mental wellbeing, we offer lots of resources to help you along the way.
#Leave: We support you with leave when you need it, including 5 days of wellness leave each year and 10 days of sick leave from day 1.
#Social: Nothing beats getting together to have some fun and celebrate our success. Join us in the office on payday for company paid lunches. Regular Friday drinks and nibbles, annual Trade Me company awards, celebrations and more.
#Learning: Whether it's on the job, formal training, or mentoring, you'll grow with us from Day 1. We're big on internal mobility and look to our own talent first for new opportunities.
We know some candidates can be reluctant to apply for roles if they feel they don't 'tick all the boxes'. If you're excited about this opportunity, we'd still really like to hear from you so please send us your resume and a short cover note outlining the “Why”.
Trade Me is an INZ accredited employer. We truly value diversity and embrace a flexible workplace where people are encouraged to achieve their potential.
