Product Owner (Dairy Beef Information Sharing)
Do you have a passion for the primary sector and want to play a key role in leading the development of a new dairy beef capability?
Passion, integrity, and a genuine desire to do our best for farmers is what drives us at Beef + Lamb New Zealand (B+LNZ). We are 100% farmer funded and work on behalf of New Zealand’s sheep and beef producers. Our vision is for thriving sheep and beef farmers, now and into the future. Beef + Lamb New Zealand’s investments play a critical role in underpinning New Zealand’s second biggest export sector.
We’re investing in innovative, data-driven solutions that strengthen farmer outcomes and lift performance across the sector. This is your opportunity to play a key role in delivering a step change in how information flows across the dairy beef system - with a strong focus on industry good, long-term trust, and outcomes that work for the whole value chain.
We’re looking for a Product Owner to lead the delivery of a dairy beef information sharing capability within the nProve ecosystem. This is a hands-on, delivery-focused role where you will take programme intent and turn it into a working, trusted product- connecting animal identity, farm data, processing outcomes, and genetic evaluations.
You’ll operate at the intersection of farmers, genetics, processors, and technology, ensuring that data flows reliably and delivers real commercial value across the supply chain.
What you’ll be responsible for
- Owning product delivery end-to-end, from concept through MVP to early adoption
- Enabling industry data flow across the dairy beef value chain
- Prioritising and managing the product backlog, balancing pace, quality, and outcomes
- Coordinating delivery across multiple stakeholders including farmers, processors, breeding companies, and vendors
- Ensuring farmer trust and usability in all solutions
- Supporting data governance and interoperability without overengineering
- Driving early pilots and real-world adoption with willing partners
- Championing an industry-first approach, ensuring solutions remain trusted, fit-for-purpose, and aligned to the long-term needs of the sector
About you
You’re a pragmatic, delivery-focused product leader who thrives in complex environments. You’ll bring:
- An understanding of the beef, dairy, and meat processor ecosystems and their key drivers
- Experience as a Product Owner, Product Manager, Delivery Lead or related role
- A track record delivering data or digital platforms with integration across systems would be an advantage
- An understanding of data flows and interoperability
- The ability to translate business, farm, and technical requirements into practical solutions
- Confidence working with farmers, industry partners and technical teams
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
Ideally based in our Dunedin office. The role is fixed term for two years. You will be required to travel to represent Beef + Lamb New Zealand and participate in regional and national collaborative processes or similar forums.
What we offer
This career move builds your expertise in a field that contributes to one of New Zealand’s most important export industries, and the New Zealand economy. We offer competitive remuneration and excellent employee benefits including additional leave entitlements, a fully-subsidised life insurance policy, and a work culture that values and rewards passion, integrity, professionalism and strong workplace relationships based on respect and whānau.
