
Senior Communications Advisor

We are seeking a Senior Communications Advisor to join a high-performing public sector team on a five-month fixed-term basis. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to significant projects, provide trusted strategic advice, and help deliver communications that inform, engage and build confidence among diverse stakeholders.
About the Role
As a Senior Communications Advisor, you will lead and deliver communications activities across a range of internal and external initiatives. You will provide expert communications advice to senior leaders, develop compelling content and key messages, manage communications risks, and support media and stakeholder engagement.
This role requires someone who can quickly build relationships, navigate complex issues, and deliver high-quality communications under tight deadlines.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement communications plans for strategic projects and initiatives.
- Provide trusted communications advice to leaders and project teams.
- Create high-quality content across a range of channels and audiences.
- Develop key messages, briefing materials, and stakeholder communications.
- Identify and manage communications risks and emerging issues.
- Support media engagement, including drafting responses and preparing spokespersons.
- Build productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Ensure communications are consistent, timely, accurate, and audience-focused.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of communications approaches and practices.
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
- Extensive experience in a senior communications role.
- Exceptional written, verbal, and visual communication skills.
- Experience translating complex or technical information into clear and accessible communications.
- Strong experience developing and delivering communication plans.
- Demonstrated ability to provide advice to senior leaders and stakeholders.
- Experience managing sensitive issues and communications risks.
- Media relations experience, including developing key messages and handling enquiries.
- Strong project management and organisational skills.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and relationship management capabilities.
- An understanding of government, public sector, or regulated environments would be advantageous.
