People and Culture Manager - Full Time

(Please note that you must already have valid work rights in New Zealand to be considered for this role)

We are looking for a full time People and Culture Manager to join our People and Culture team at Cordis, Auckland. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced and self-driven People and Culture leader who is passionate about supporting people, shaping positive colleague experiences and developing others. Working within New Zealand’s largest hotel, you will have the opportunity to influence the colleague experience at scale, support a purpose-driven culture for more than 450 colleagues and continue building your own capability alongside experienced, best-in-class leaders in a complex and fast-paced hospitality environment. Reporting to the Director of People and Culture, you will join a team of six and play a key role in supporting Department Heads and Managers across all areas of People and Culture. This role is not for the faint hearted. It is for a leader who is not afraid to roll up their sleeves and work side by side with the team and wider hotel when and where needed. You will bring sound knowledge across employment relations, recruitment, performance, policy, compliance, wellbeing and colleague engagement, while also contributing to broader portfolio areas within the team including sustainability, learning and development and payroll. For the right person with passion and drive in sustainability, there is an opportunity to take leadership of this important area. A good sense of humour is a must, and having a laugh with the team to release pressure should come naturally.

What you’ll be doing

  • Supporting the day-to-day operations of the People and Culture department and deputising for the Director of People and Culture when required
  • Providing trusted People and Culture advice and support to Department Heads, Managers and colleagues across the hotel
  • Supporting recruitment, retention and workforce planning to meet business and colleague experience needs
  • Managing colleague complaints, performance matters, disciplinary processes and employment relations matters with procedural fairness
  • Supporting collective agreement interpretation, union interactions and employment-related matters where required
  • Developing, reviewing and communicating People and Culture policies, procedures and systems to support consistent practice
  • Coordinating key People and Culture reporting, including turnover, starters and leavers, exit insights, recruitment activity and sustainability progress
  • Contributing to departmental budgeting, job descriptions, salary grades and benefit information in line with business needs
  • Championing colleague engagement, recognition, wellbeing activities and My Colleague Survey action plans
  • Supporting sustainability activity for the hotel, including EarthCheck coordination and related reporting, with the opportunity to lead this portfolio
  • Supporting learning and development, Performance appraisal tracking and team capability building
  • Mentoring and coaching the wider People and Culture team while maintaining strong relationships, confidentiality and professional standards

What we’re looking for

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Previous experience in a People and Culture, Human Resources or similar role at manager or senior advisory level
  • Sound knowledge of New Zealand employment legislation, employment relations principles and People and Culture best practice
  • Experience advising managers on performance, complaints, disciplinary matters and procedural fairness
  • A self-driven leadership style with a genuine desire to share knowledge and support the development of others
  • A hands-on approach and willingness to roll up your sleeves and support the team and wider hotel when needed
  • A proactive approach with confidence to take initiative, lead priorities and follow through on commitments
  • The ability to build trusted relationships with Department Heads, Managers, colleagues and external partners
  • Confident communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present information clearly and professionally
  • A high level of personal and professional integrity, sound judgement and commitment to confidentiality
  • Strong organisational skills, attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities, reports and deadlines
  • Passion for sustainability, or the drive to further develop in this area and take leadership of sustainability initiatives
  • A positive sense of humour and the ability to bring perspective, warmth and a laugh to busy moments
