
Senior Learning Designer
Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity
We seek a Senior Learning Designer to join our team at The University of Auckland. Working with the Associate Director Learning and Teaching Design to provide leadership within Ranga Auaha Ako to ensure the University’s learning and teaching goals are met. You will be promoting and supporting high-quality teaching with learning design expertise and using related technologies and frameworks to develop and enhance programmes. Along with establishing and maintaining relationships that allow you to engage and influence your key stakeholders effectively.
Along with, this you will:
- Assume ownership of the Project Leadership Portfolio-responsible for oversight of the team’s programme of projects, ensuring optimisation in planning, process, compliance, reporting and analytics
- Lead, support, and develop a team of Learning Designers
- Lead project teams within Ranga Auaha Ako and work with Faculties and Units to deliver quality outcomes for strategic projects.
This is a full-time, 37.5 hours per week, permanent role. The salary is $99,300- $121,900 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience.

You are an experienced learning design professional who combines strong pedagogical expertise with a collaborative and practical approach. Comfortable leading projects and guiding others, you build effective relationships, deliver high-quality learning solutions, and contribute to continuous improvement in teaching and learning practice.
- A postgraduate qualification in learning and teaching, education, instructional design, or a related discipline.
- Experience as a Learning Designer, educator, facilitator, or similar learning and teaching professional.
- Demonstrated success designing, developing, and enhancing face-to-face, online, and blended learning experiences.
- Strong knowledge of learning technologies, digital learning environments, and contemporary learning design practice.
- Proven ability to lead projects, manage competing priorities, and deliver quality outcomes.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to work effectively across diverse teams.
- Experience mentoring, coaching, or supporting the development of others.
- A commitment to equity, inclusion, and creating accessible learning experiences for diverse learners.
Experience working within a tertiary education environment and contributing to strategic learning and teaching initiatives will be highly regarded.
