Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting for a Fire Compliance Coordinator to join the Health, Safety, and Wellbeing (HSW) team on a permanent, part-time basis.
This role supports the University to maintain effective fire compliance systems, evacuation readiness, training and regulatory obligations across our campuses. Working with the Emergency Management and Business Continuity Lead, HSW colleagues, Property Services and local teams, you will help ensure fire evacuation schemes, warden records, training, trial evacuations and related compliance activities are current, practical and well-documented.
Key responsibilities:
Maintain fire evacuation schemes and support compliance with relevant Fire and Emergency New Zealand requirements.
Coordinate trial evacuations, fire drills, warden training and fire safety training.
Maintain accurate building and fire warden information to support emergency readiness.
Support signage, fire board, fire isolation and site-based compliance processes with Property Services.
Support fire investigations, document findings and recommend corrective actions.
Maintain practical procedures and guidance for fire compliance activities.

You will be an experienced fire compliance professional who can translate regulatory requirements into practical systems and guidance. You will be organised, calm under pressure, and able to build effective relationships with kaimahi, wardens, HSW colleagues, Property Services, contractors and external agencies.
Key requirements:
- Experience writing or maintaining FENZ evacuation schemes.
- Experience delivering fire and emergency-related training, including building or floor warden training.
- Knowledge of fire evacuation drills, fire isolations and related compliance controls.
- Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills, including in crisis situations.
- Good digital capability, including email, basic Excel and maintaining records.
- Current clean New Zealand driver’s license.
