Waipapa Taumata Rau | The University of Auckland

With more than 6,000 academic and professional staff supporting over 47,000 students, we are proud to be one of the country’s largest and most diverse employers. Our people are driven by curiosity, purpose, and a shared commitment to creating positive impact for our communities.

Within Ranga Pūmanawa Tangata (Human Resources), our Talent & Recruitment team plays a critical role in shaping the University’s future workforce—attracting, connecting and growing talent in ways that are strategic, inclusive and future-focused.

Here, recruitment goes beyond filling roles to enabling people, pathways and possibilities.

Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity

We're looking for a Recruitment Consultant to lead a dedicated portfolio of faculties and departments, partnering closely with leaders to attract and appoint outstanding academic & professional talent

In this relationship-focused role, you'll act as a trusted recruitment advisor, working with hiring managers to understand workforce needs, develop attraction strategies, and deliver exceptional hiring outcomes. You'll provide expert guidance throughout the recruitment lifecycle, balancing candidate experience, stakeholder partnership, and best-practice recruitment to ensure the University continues to attract and retain high-calibre talent.

Key areas of focus include:

  • Managing recruitment across your departmental and faculty portfolio
  • Building strong relationships with hiring managers and becoming their trusted recruitment advisor
  • Providing market insights, talent intelligence, and advice on attraction approaches
  • Proactively sourcing and engaging high-quality talent
  • Guiding hiring managers through best practice recruitment
  • Supporting workforce planning, talent pipelining, and future hiring needs
  • Ensuring recruitment activities align with employment legislation, University policies, and best practice standards
  • Using recruitment data and insights to continuously improve outcomes

This is a full-time, permanent opportunity.

The full salary range for this role is $87,000 - $118,000 - Band G

We have a structured salary framework with three zones: Developing (building capability), Target (fully effective performance), and Upper (deep expertise and sustained contribution).

Appointments are most typically made within the target range of $93,201 – $107,500, depending on skills, experience, and internal equity. We welcome conversations about your expectations and what matters to you in your overall package. Any offer will be made within the advertised range and guided by fairness, consistency, and our commitment to pay equity.
