Introduction

ABOUT THE ROLE
SPCA is one of New Zealand's most trusted charities, working to improve animal welfare and advocate for animals in need. Every year we care for thousands of animals through rescue, rehabilitation, shelter and rehoming, and our Animal Services teams play a vital role in making this possible. That's why we're looking for a compassionate and resilient Casual Animal Attendant to join our team in Christchurch.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day care for animals, ensuring their health, wellbeing and welfare needs are met.
  • Monitor animal health and behaviour, administering medication as required.
  • Support animal enrichment, socialisation and behaviour programmes.
  • Maintain accurate animal records using SPCA systems.
  • Support adoption enquiries and provide excellent customer service to adopters and members of the public.
  • Work alongside volunteers and colleagues to achieve positive animal welfare outcomes.
  • Maintain clean, safe and hygienic animal housing and workspaces.

  • Experience delivering excellent customer service in a community-facing environment.
  • Physically fit and comfortable performing manual tasks throughout the day.
  • Strong communication, able to remain calm under pressure and make sound decisions.
  • Confident working both independently, part of a team and with volunteers.
  • Well organised with good time management and attention to detail.
  • High levels of empathy, resilience and professionalism.

OUR PURRRKS
This is more than just an animal care role, it's an opportunity to work for a cause where your values, wellbeing and contributions truly matter.

Here's what else you can look forward to:

  • Career development and internal opportunities across SPCA
  • Access to 24/7 confidential wellness support
  • Meaningful work that directly supports animal welfare in New Zealand
