About the role | Mō te tūranga:
Our Biochemistry Department is seeking motivated, enthusiastic, and capable Medical Laboratory Technicians to join our team. These are permanent, part-time roles of 64 hours per fortnight including two consecutive night shifts (23:30 to 07:30) in one week per fortnight.
In these roles, you will play a key part in supporting the smooth and efficient operation of the department. Working collaboratively with a supportive and skilled team, you will carry out a range of medical laboratory technician duties that contribute directly to high quality patient care. Key Responsibilities:
- Analyse blood samples following established biochemistry protocols and procedures.
- Report results in line with quality standards and client specifications.
- Ensure timely turnaround of results while upholding quality and technical standards.
- Contribute to quality control, operational improvements, and efficiency initiatives within the biochemistry team.

To be successful in this role:
- The ability to work in a methodical manner adhering to strict quality procedure guidelines.
- A team focus with initiative, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and possess the ability to work in a fast paced, deadline-oriented environment.
- Sound knowledge of laboratory operations including, safety, quality assurance processes, operation of equipment and hands-on practical experience.
- Registration with the Medical Sciences Council of New Zealand under the scope of Medical Laboratory Technician and a current Annual Practicing Certificate is desirable. The ability to register with the council requires a biological science-related degree, applications from eligible non-registered candidates may be considered depending on experience.
- Available to work rostered and rotating weekends and evenings. Please note these hours attract penal rates.
- Current eligibility to work in New Zealand.
If you do not yet have your registration with the Medical Sciences Council of New Zealand, we will also consider candidates who are in the process of becoming qualified.
