About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Financial Accountant to join our Finance team on a 12-month fixed-term basis (30–32 hours per week) to provide parental leave cover.
Reporting to the Head of Finance you will play a key role in ensuring the integrity of N4L's financial reporting and compliance obligations. This is a hands-on role with responsibility for the month-end and year-end close process, statutory reporting, budgeting and forecasting, and strengthening our internal control environment through continuous process improvement.
We're looking for someone who enjoys working with data, is naturally curious about the story behind the numbers, and can build strong relationships across the organisation while supporting best-practice finance operations.
What you will be doing:
- Lead the month-end and year-end close process, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.
- Prepare monthly financial reports, Board packs, balance sheet reconciliations, cash flow reporting, journals, and supporting working papers.
- Maintain the integrity of the general ledger by preparing and reviewing journals, accruals, prepayments, and reconciliations.
- Ensure compliance with the Public Finance Act, Crown Entities Act, PBE accounting standards, GST and FBT obligations, Treasury reporting requirements, insurance renewals, and external audit requirements.
- Prepare the annual Statement of Performance Expectations (SPE) and support multi-period forecasting (4+8, 6+6, and 8+4), including balance sheet and cash flow forecasts.
- Analyse financial performance, balance sheet movements, and cash flow providing meaningful variance analysis and insights.
- Review and enhance finance processes, documentation, and internal controls to improve efficiency and reduce risk.
- Build effective relationships with stakeholders across the business and collaborate with external auditors to ensure a smooth audit process.
What you will need to be successful:
- 3–5 years' experience in financial accounting, statutory reporting, tax compliance, and public sector accounting standards (PBE).
- Strong experience managing month-end and year-end close processes, including financial reporting and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Proven capability in budgeting, forecasting, multi-period planning (4+8, 6+6, and 8+4), and detailed variance analysis.
- A process-driven mindset with experience in process documentation, internal controls, and continuous improvement.
- High technical accuracy, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to communicate complex financial information in a clear and practical way.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to partner effectively with the Finance team and stakeholders across the organisation.
About You:
You are a proactive and self-motivated finance professional who enjoys taking ownership and delivering high-quality outcomes. You combine technical accounting expertise with commercial curiosity, always looking beyond the numbers to understand what is driving financial performance. You thrive in a collaborative environment and are committed to strengthening processes and controls while delivering exceptional service to internal stakeholders.
