Technical Lead - US Sports
We are a small, world-class quantitative trading firm where machine learning, neural networks and advanced data engineering drive our algorithmic trading strategies.
We are building a new trading operation targeting emerging prediction markets in the UK and the rapidly growing US sports market, and we are recruiting an ambitious Technical Lead dedicated to build this operation from the ground up.
Key Responsibilities
You will be the Technical Lead of a small cross-functional team operating across development, quantitative modelling and trading, working alongside experienced quants, traders and developers from across the company. You will design and build critical systems yourself while providing technical supervision, engineering standards and mentorship for the rest of the team to move quickly without compromising the reliability of a live trading operation.
You will lead and own the development of systems including:
- Low-latency data and trading infrastructure across multiple platforms
- Automated execution and order-management systems
- Infrastructure for deploying quantitative models and trading strategies into production
- Systems for managing positions, capital, risk and exposure
- Research and simulation tooling for testing new strategies
- Monitoring and observability for a live, automated trading operation
- Integrations with new exchanges, data providers and other external systems
You will have significant freedom to shape the architecture, technology and development practices of the team. The roadmap will evolve quickly as the markets develop and our operations mature. A key part of the role is deciding what the team should build, how sophisticated it needs to be and where engineering effort will have the greatest commercial impact.
We are looking for an exceptional senior software engineer who combines technical depth, sound judgement and an ability to develop others.
To apply, you must have:
- 3+ years of professional software development experience, including experience with Python
- Experience designing, building and operating complex production systems
- Strong understanding of software architecture, data structures, concurrency, networking and distributed systems
- The ability to diagnose difficult performance and reliability problems
- Strong technical judgement and the ability to balance speed, simplicity, performance and maintainability
- The ability to explain complex technical ideas clearly and lead less experienced team members
- A willingness to remain hands-on while providing technical leadership
- Ability to use AI and AI generated code effectively and responsibly
- A degree in Computer Science or a numerical subject from a top university
Desirable but not required experience:
- Low-latency and high-throughput systems
- Algorithmic or quantitative trading
- Operating betting or trading platform APIs
- Building data-intensive systems
- Cloud infrastructure, preferably with AWS
- Building a new product or technical platform from an early stage
- Competitive salary and significant bonus potential
- Enhanced pension match with salary sacrifice option
- Health insurance and life assurance
- Sabbatical leave after five years
- 33 days of annual leave (including bank holidays)
