Guide to what a Data Visualisation Engineer does at Cybit
We are looking for a Data Visualisation Engineer to join our growing Data and AI team.
The Data Visualisation Engineer's primary focus is Microsoft Power BI and Qlik Cloud. Working with customers and colleagues, the primary focus of this role is to understand reporting requirements, prepare and model data, create effective visualisations, and deliver solutions that people can trust and use, using Microsoft Power BI and Qlik Cloud.
Helping organisations across a range of sectors better understand performance, identify opportunities and make informed decisions. The role combines technical expertise, problem-solving and customer engagement, offering the opportunity to develop experience across both the Microsoft and Qlik technology stacks.
This role has been designed for someone who wants to build a long-term career in data visualisation, AI, business intelligence and analytics. You'll receive training across Power BI and Qlik Cloud, supported by experienced colleagues and vendor learning resources. You'll also gain exposure to technologies including Microsoft Fabric, Azure Data Factory, Databricks and Qlik Talend Cloud, as well as Generative AI within analytics and data solutions.
As your experience grows, there will be opportunities to progress into senior engineering, consulting, solution architecture or technical leadership roles.
What you’ll be doing
- Design, build and maintain dashboards, reports and analytical applications using Power BI and Qlik Cloud
- Work with customers and internal stakeholders to understand their reporting needs, business measures and desired outcomes
- Translate business requirements into clear, practical and user-friendly visualisations
- Build and maintain data models that support accurate, consistent and efficient reporting
- Create calculations, measures and business logic using tools such as DAX, Power Query, Qlik scripting and set analysis
- Connect reports and applications to databases, spreadsheets, cloud platforms and other business systems
- Configure and manage customer environments
- Prepare, clean and transform data for reporting and analysis
- Test dashboards, reports, calculations and data models before release
- Investigate data quality issues and work with colleagues and customers to resolve them
- Improve the usability, performance and consistency of existing reporting solutions
- Assist in the migration and modernisation of legacy BI platforms
- Support the deployment, publishing and ongoing management of Power BI and Qlik applications
- Produce clear technical documentation and user guidance
- Demonstrate completed solutions to customers and explain how they can use them effectively
- Provide support for customer reporting solutions and help resolve technical issues
- Work alongside consultants, data engineers, solution architects and project managers to deliver complete data solutions
- Continue developing your technical knowledge through structured learning, practical project work and vendor certifications
We are looking for someone with

- Good SQL skills, including the ability to query, join and validate data
- Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to testing your work
- The ability to understand a business question and turn it into a clear visual or analytical solution
- Strong communication skills, with the confidence to discuss requirements and demonstrate completed work
- The ability to manage your workload and work across several customer tasks or projects
- An interest in developing skills across both Power BI and Qlik Cloud
- A willingness to learn new technologies and work towards relevant certifications
It would be advantageous if you have experience in both Power BI and Qlik Sense or Qlik Cloud.
