Residential Life Coordinator
- Full-time, permanent position (40 hours a week)
- Tuesday to Saturday, 2.00 pm to 10.30 pm
- Based in our new Tupuārangi hall of residence in Christchurch
- A varied role combining events, student engagement and wellbeing support
We are looking for an energetic, organised and people-focused Residential Life Coordinator to join our UniLodge Canterbury team.
This is not a typical Monday-to-Friday office role. Working during the afternoons and evenings means you will be present when our residential communities are most active and when students are most likely to connect, attend events or need support.
A key focus of your role will be creating and delivering events, activities and initiatives that help students meet people, build connections and feel that they belong. From planning larger hall events to supporting smaller community activities, you will bring ideas to life and help create a positive, inclusive and engaging residential experience.
Alongside resident engagement, you will provide approachable frontline support to residents, respond to wellbeing or behavioural concerns and help maintain a safe and supportive environment. Working with the Residential Life Manager and the wider Residential Life team, including student leaders as a high functioning team member.
What you will do
- Plan, coordinate and deliver engaging events and community initiatives designed to uplift the mana of our residents
- Create opportunities that strengthen student connection, wellbeing and belonging
- Build positive relationships with residents and maintain a visible presence within the halls
- Provide initial support to students experiencing wellbeing, personal or academic challenges
- Respond calmly and appropriately to student concerns, incidents and challenging situations
- Complete event administration, communications, purchasing and other operational tasks
- Contribute to emergency and incident responses during rostered hours
You enjoy working with people and know how to turn an idea into a well-organised experience. You are approachable and outgoing, while also understanding the importance of professional boundaries, confidentiality and good judgement.
You will be someone who can bring energy to an event, connect naturally with students and remain calm when situations become challenging. You will be comfortable taking initiative, managing competing priorities and working as part of a close and supportive team.
You will ideally bring:
- 2 years’ experience planning and delivering events, activities or engagement programmes
- Experience working with young adults, students or within a community-focused environment
- Strong organisation skills and attention to detail
- A warm, confident and inclusive communication style with ability to build relationships with people from a wide range of backgrounds
- Sound judgement and the ability to respond calmly under pressure
- An understanding of professional boundaries when supporting students
- A relevant tertiary qualification, current tertiary study or equivalent practical experience
- Confidence using digital systems and social media tools
- Availability to work the advertised Tuesday-to-Saturday afternoon and evening roster
The successful applicant will be required to complete Police Vetting.
