Engineering Manager Scheduling Team (x/f/m)

<h2><strong>Set a new pulse for healthcare!</strong></h2> <p>We are looking for an <strong>Engineering Manager</strong> to join the <strong>Scheduling</strong> team in <strong>Berlin</strong>.</p> <p>Your mission will be to give practitioners their day back:&nbsp; reclaiming the admin time they spend creating and managing appointments, so care teams can focus on what matters. You will work in a feature team developing scheduling infrastructure and booking experiences, contributing directly to a platform that books billions of appointments a year for health professionals and patients across Europe.</p> <p>Working in the tech team at Doctolib means building innovative products and features to improve the daily lives of care teams and patients.</p> <h2><strong>What you'll do</strong></h2> <p>Your responsibilities include but are not limited to:</p> <ul> <li><strong>Lead a team of 6 to 7 engineers</strong> of mixed seniority, owning delivery, quality and production health end to end — keeping engagement high and standards higher</li> <li>Together with your product partner, define the mission and vision for your team and build a roadmap you can defend to stakeholders</li> <li>Take part in architecture reviews and help shape the technical direction of the Scheduling stream, including the migration of core scheduling capabilities from the monolith into purpose-built services</li> <li>Set and uphold the security, reliability, performance and scalability standards required to remain the most trusted e-health SaaS in Europe</li> <li>Partner with Talent and People teams to recruit, develop and retain engineers through career conversations and feedback they can act on</li> <li>Embed AI-assisted engineering into how your team works day to day, with a clear and honest view of where it helps and where it does not</li> <li>Continuously improve how the team operates — planning, on-call, bug backlog, incident follow-up — so the team spends its energy on what moves the needle</li> </ul> <h2><strong>Who you are</strong></h2> <p>Before you read on: if you don't have the exact profile described below, but you feel this job description matches your skill set, we still encourage you to apply.</p> <p><strong>You'll be a great fit if you:</strong></p> <ul> <li>Have at least <strong>6 years</strong> of software engineering experience and <strong>3 years</strong> of engineering management experience, including leading a team of 5+ engineers through delivery, hiring and growth</li> <li>Are credible with senior backend engineers — distributed systems, data modelling, latency and throughput are conversations you can hold and challenge; you stay close enough to the code to review a pull request, without needing to be the one writing it</li> <li>Have hands-on experience <strong>modernising a large legacy system</strong>, ideally extracting services from a monolith, and know how to keep a team delivering while the ground moves</li> <li>Are an effective communicator who can translate company goals into team objectives, and who says the uncomfortable thing early rather than late</li> <li>Think critically and objectively, with a solution-oriented approach that brings people with you</li> </ul> <p><strong>It would be fantastic if you:</strong></p> <ul> <li>Have worked in a regulated industry such as healthcare or fintech, where privacy and data protection shape design decisions</li> <li>Have navigated hyper-growth environments and understand the trade-offs they force on architecture and team organisation</li> <li>Have formed a considered view on AI coding assistants — their real benefits and their real shortcomings</li> </ul> <h2><strong>Life at Doctolib Tech</strong></h2> <ul> <li>Our solutions are built on a single fully cloud-native platform that supports web and mobile app interfaces, multiple languages, and is adapted to country and healthcare specialty requirements.</li> <li>Our stack in this product area is Ruby on Rails and TypeScript/React in the monolith, Kotlin for new services, with Postgres, Redis and Kafka underneath.</li> <li>We leverage AI ethically across our products to empower patients and health professionals.
