Senior Mobile Developer (Android)
At Trade Me, we're about connecting Kiwi to create the life they want. Whether it's the big things like finding a home, a job, a car or growing their business, or the smaller things, like finding that right bedside table or parting ways with some old stuff. At Trade Me our vision is to be the place where Kiwi look first.
This role is key to providing top-quality, modern native mobile platforms, products, and enhancements for Trade Me. Your input will be vital to the technology roadmap and you will define and drive forward the principles of quality, stable, and supportable software design. You will help us keep a focus on ensuring our Android applications are delivered with quality, speed, and care.
Here is what you can expect from this role:
- Build native Android applications using Kotlin to give our mobile users a world-class experience.
- Mentor and coach less experienced team members as a trusted technical advisor.
- Contribute to all lifecycle phases - from ideation and design to development and user testing.
- Proactively research, investigate, and lead new initiatives to keep Trade Me at the forefront of mobile innovation.
- Uphold quality standards by implementing functional and UI automated tests alongside manual testing.
- Collaborate within dynamic squads and contribute to Trade Me mobile guilds.
What you will bring to our team:
- 5+ years of experience in native mobile development, specializing in Kotlin for Android platforms.
- Hands-on experience experimenting with AI tools, and a natural curiosity to weave them into your everyday work.
- Proven experience with Agile software development methodologies.
- Ability to deliver large features, support architectural decisions, and collaborate with Lead Software Engineers.
- A positive, collaborative mindset with strong organizational skills and comfort with self-directed work.
- Sharp attention to detail to make our mobile experience faster, more reliable, and easier to maintain.
You'll have the best time working at Trade Me, and this is why:

#Wellness: Being your best self means caring for your physical and mental wellbeing, we offer lots of resources to help you along the way.
#Leave: We support you with leave when you need it, including 5 days of wellness leave each year and 10 days of sick leave from day 1.

#Learning: Whether it's on the job, formal training, or mentoring, you'll grow with us from Day 1. We're big on internal mobility and look to our own talent first for new opportunities.
We know some candidates can be reluctant to apply for roles if they feel they don't 'tick all the boxes'. If you're excited about this opportunity, we'd still really like to hear from you so please send us your resume and a short cover note outlining the “Why”.
