About the role

We consistently deliver great member service by truly putting our members at the heart of what we do, focusing on the store standards.

The Shift Lead is responsible for the effective day-to-day running of the store on shift, leading colleagues to deliver strong operational performance, high standards and a positive member experience. The role focuses on execution, shift leadership and supporting delivery of store plans.

Leadership & People

• Lead colleagues on shift, setting clear expectations and role modelling Company Shop Group behaviours.

• Coach and support colleagues in the moment to deliver required standards and performance.

• Support absence management and people processes in line with Company procedures.

• Escalate people or performance issues appropriately to the Assistant Store Manager or Store Manager.

Operational Delivery

• Take responsibility for store performance during allocated shifts, including opening and closing the store.

• Ensure the store is fully prepared for trade and operates efficiently throughout the day.

• Deliver daily retail activities including replenishment, deliveries, waste, markdowns, cash office, hygiene and housekeeping.

• Maintain high operational standards across all areas of the store.

Member Experience

• Deliver a consistently high level of customer service to all members.

• Resolve member queries and issues effectively, escalating where required.

Compliance & Safety

• Ensure Company Shop Group policies, food safety and health & safety standards are followed on shift.

• Promote safe working practices and encourage reporting of near misses, observations and accidents.

Collaboration

• Work collaboratively with other Shift Leads to ensure full shift and operational coverage.

• Support the Assistant Store Manager and Store Manager with the delivery of store objectives.

  • Sound knowledge of day-to-day retail operations and the ability to maintain high store standards during trading and non-trading hours.
  • An understanding of key commercial KPIs, with the ability to support delivery of performance targets on shift.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate colleagues in a fast-paced retail environment.
  • Clear and confident communicator, able to coach colleagues and provide constructive feedback in the moment.
  • Good commercial awareness, with the ability to identify issues and improvement opportunities and escalate appropriately.
  • Strong member focus, committed to delivering a positive and consistent member experience.
  • Well organised and adaptable, able to prioritise effectively and respond to changing operational demands.
  • Previous experience in a supervisory or team leader role within a retail environment.
  • Experience of opening and closing a store and overseeing daily operational activities.
  • Experience of handling cash, processing refunds and working in line with company policies and procedures.
  • Food Safety Level 1 qualification, or willingness to obtain as part of the role.

Location- Company Shop Tankersley, Wentworth Way, Wentworth Industrial Estate, Tankersley, Barnsley, South Yorkshire, S75 3DH
Shifts/Hours:

Hours/shift pattern: 32 hours per week, shift patterns will be 4 days out of 7 and be a variety of (07:00 start), mids ( 09:00 onwards) and lates (13:30- 22:00).

Due to the shift lead role and the nature of Wentworth theses shifts are not fixed and a full flexibility is required to accommodate business needs.

Salary: £28'500 pro rated over 32 hours
