
Photonics Technologist
The role will involve providing technology expertise and support across photonics, including in terms of technical consultancy, thought leadership, lab operation, opportunity development, relationship management, and ecosystem engagement. This involves working closely with colleagues in multiple teams to pursue, plan, design and deliver projects. The Technologist will contribute to the mapping and pursuit of the strategic photonic opportunities for Digital Catapult, alongside quantum technologies.
WHAT YOU’LL DO (Duties)
- Preparation and delivery of photonics projects, including NI-focused and wider UK work.
- Support on proposal development, addressing research opportunities and commercial work.
- Support the Technology Research, Development and Innovation team, including in terms of horizon scanning and technology roadmap development.
- Collaborate with photonics team members on the research plans and long-term strategy.
- Building networks across academia, industry and government in the UK photonics ecosystem.
- Collaborate on research journal publications, together with demonstrate thought leadership via writing articles and presenting at industry and academic events.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR (Experience)
- Broad and hands-on experience of photonic technologies.
- Project initiation, formulation and leadership experience in a consulting, research or commercial setting.
- Excellent problem solving and multitasking skills, with a creative and flexible attitude.
- Experience within simulation and design of photonic systems, together processing of photonic data.
- Outstanding communicator with the ability to present complex issues to business, technical and political audiences.
Salary: c. £50,000-60,000 pa (subject to experience) + discretionary bonus + competitive benefits package
