Buller District Council is seeking a highly capable Development Engineer to join our Infrastructure Services team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in guiding subdivision and land development across the Buller District while ensuring that new infrastructure assets meet Council standards and support the long-term needs of our communities.

The Opportunity | Te Whai Wāhitanga
This role offers a unique mix of:
- Assessing and providing engineering input into resource consent applications, LIMs, PIMs, and subdivision proposals.
- Reviewing engineering designs, drawings, and specifications to ensure compliance with Council standards and relevant legislation
- Supporting the preparation of Council reports and contributing to Long Term Plans, Annual Plans, asset management planning, and other strategic initiatives
What You'll Bring | Ō Pūkenga me Ō Wheako
We are looking for someone with the following:
A strategic thinker with a collaborative approach, capable of translating complex issues into clear advice and practical outcomes for Council and the community.
Essential:
- Minimum five years' post-qualification experience in civil engineering, development engineering, infrastructure delivery, or a similar field.
- Earthworks for land development.
- Strong understanding of engineering principles and infrastructure standards.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present technical information clearly and professionally.
- Full New Zealand Driver License.
Desirable:
- Experience auditing engineering designs and subdivision documentation.
- Knowledge of quality management systems and continuous improvement practices
