Product Development Engineering Summer Internships
The Role
Auckland & Dunedin
At Fisher & Paykel Appliances, we design with people in mind and the lives lived around our products.
Our heritage is built on curiosity, innovation and challenging convention to create products that make everyday life better. Today, that same spirit continues as we work towards our ambition to be the world’s most human-centred appliance brand.
We’re looking for the next generation of engineers to join us through our Product Development Summer Internship Programme.
Where you’ll make your mark
This isn’t an internship where you’ll spend the summer watching from the sidelines.
You’ll become part of one of our Product Development teams, working alongside experienced engineers, designers and technical specialists on real engineering challenges that contribute to the development of our future products.
Depending on your discipline and project, you could be researching new technologies, developing and testing concepts, analysing performance, solving engineering problems or helping turn an idea into a practical design.
You’ll have the opportunity to apply what you’ve learned at university in a commercial engineering environment while discovering how great products move from curiosity and experimentation through to design, validation and ultimately production.
Most importantly, you’ll learn. Our approach to Product Development encourages engineers to experiment, test assumptions, build knowledge and use evidence to make better design decisions.
Who are you?
- You’re curious about how things work – and how they could work better.
- You enjoy solving problems, asking questions and getting hands-on with ideas. You’re comfortable working with others, but you also have the initiative to investigate a problem and find a way forward.
- You’ll bring strong communication and problem-solving skills, an interest in product development and a willingness to learn from the engineers and specialists around you.
- We’re particularly interested in students studying disciplines such as:
- Mechanical Engineering
- Mechatronics Engineering
- Chemistry/Textile Science
- Food Service
- Science or other relevant technical disciplines
What will you get from the summer?
- You’ll experience what being an engineer at Fisher & Paykel is really like.
- You’ll work with talented people, gain exposure to the development of premium appliances and technology, and build practical experience that complements what you’re learning at university.
- You’ll also experience a collaborative environment where ideas are encouraged, technical thinking is challenged and learning is part of how we work.
For students considering a future career in Product Development, it’s an opportunity to test yourself, build your engineering capability and start creating the products you may one day see in homes around the world.
Start your engineering career with us
If you’re naturally curious, passionate about engineering and excited by the opportunity to turn ideas into real products, we’d love to hear from you.
