Introduction

ABOUT THE ROLE
SPCA is one of New Zealand's most trusted charities, working to improve animal welfare and advocate for animals in need. Every purchase and donation made through our Op Shops helps fund this important work. That’s why we are looking for an enthusiastic Casual Op Shop Assistant to join our SPCA Glen Innes Op Shop that's known for its friendly volunteer team, quality second-hand finds, and strong support from the local community. Whether you're working the shop floor, processing donations, or chatting with customers, you'll be making a difference every day

  • Casual Op Shop Assistant – Glen Innes
  • Casual Hours as required to cover leave, busy periods, and weekends

Key Responsibilities

  • Work sole charge on rostered days, taking full responsibility for daily shop operations.
  • Receive, sort, price and merchandise donated goods
  • Assist customers and donors with friendly, professional service
  • Process sales transactions and complete cash handling duties
  • Maintain a clean, safe and well-presented store environment
  • Ensure stock is replenished and displayed effectively
  • Help support and guide volunteers in their roles.
  • Provide cover and basic team supervision in the manager’s absence.

ABOUT YOU
You’re practical, reliable, and enjoy working in a busy retail environment. You take pride in your work, enjoy helping people, and are comfortable taking responsibility when working on your own.

What we're looking for

  • Retail or customer service experience essential (charity retail a bonus).
  • Flexibility around availability to work on call and as needed
  • Confident and experienced working sole charge
  • Able to work flexibly across the shop floor, till, and sorting area.
  • Confident communicator who enjoys helping others.
  • Reliable, organised, and proactive with good attention to detail.
  • Comfortable working in a team, with volunteers and independently.
  • Physically fit and able to lift/move stock as required.
  • Confident using POS systems, email and basic computer applications
