Comvita is looking for an Apprentice Beekeeper to join our Whanganui Apiary team. This is more than just a job. It's a hands-on career pathway where you'll gain real-world experience while completing the New Zealand Certificate in Apiculture (Level 3) – which is NZQA approved credits - through our supported apprenticeship programme.
What You'll Be Doing
Working alongside experienced beekeepers, you'll learn all aspects of commercial beekeeping, including:
- Hive management and bee health
- Honey production and harvesting
- Pest and disease management
- Transporting and establishing hives
- Working safely in diverse outdoor environments
- Building positive relationships with landowners and stakeholders
You'll play an important role in helping maintain healthy hives and supporting the production of premium New Zealand honey.
*You must be willing to undergo pre-employment drug & alcohol testing, then if successful ongoing random testing*
What We're Looking For
You don't need previous beekeeping experience. Instead, we are looking for people who:
- Love working outdoors
- Are physically fit and comfortable with manual work
- Have a positive attitude and willingness to learn
- Work well as part of a team
- Hold a full New Zealand Class 1 Driver Licence
- Are willing to travel occasionally and work flexible hours during peak seasons
- Have no known allergy to bee stings or pollen
