Te whiwhinga mahi - The Opportunity
We are looking for a passionate and experienced social worker to compliment the existing Kaiarahi clinicians. This role will see you lead the delivery of Kia Ora Ake, a locally co-designed, school-based wellbeing approach supporting tamariki across Counties Manukau. This role is based in Mangere, fulltime Monday to Friday.
Part of the national Mana Ake programme, Kia Ora Ake takes a holistic, whaanau-centered approach to strengthening the hinengaro wellbeing of tamariki in primary and intermediate schools.
In this role, you will:
• Be a clinical leader and trusted advisor, supporting kaimahi and partners with clinical guidance
• Build meaningful, enduring relationships with schools, kura Maaori, whaanau and community providers
• Work alongside education and health sectors to identify needs and co-design effective responses
• Support both individual tamariki and whole-of-school wellbeing approaches
• Contribute to a culturally grounded, Tiriti-based model of care that prioritises equity and outcomes for Maaori
This is a dynamic, relationship-driven role where no two days are the same. You will be at the forefront of shaping how wellbeing support is delivered to tamariki and whaanau in your community.
Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako – Skills and Experience
To be successful in this role, you will have
- Registration as a social worker practitioner (minimum 2+ years’ experience)
- Experience working in mental health, health, education or community settings
- Proven ability to build relationships across schools, whaanau and multi-agency environments
- Confidence in providing clinical guidance, risk assessment and support
- Experience working with tamariki and whaanau experiencing mental or emotional distress
- A solid understanding of Maaori models of health and wellbeing and commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- The ability to think critically and develop practical, creative solutions
